LAS VEGAS MARATHON
Dec. 10, 2006
Mike Townley had an unfortunate incident on the way to the airport to fly to
the Las Vegas Marathon. Here's his story...
******
I was hit from behind by a semi who pushed me into the next lane at 90 degrees where I was T-Boned on the drivers side, continued spinning to end up facing the other was on the far side of the road. The cops were great, they called me a cab so I could make my flight. However I was pretty frazzled by the entire experience but attempted to run anyway with all the stiffness from being rattled around in the accident.
I ran real well for 10 miles. I began to seize up after about 6-7 miles and the soreness in my neck, back and left leg was to much to continue running at my desired pace. I did manage to shuffle the rest of the way with a few breaks at aid stations along the way to finish in 4:54:02.
My time was
unofficial because my timing chip was not on my shoe at the start of the
race. I didn't worry much about it because I was hurting and really just
hoping to finish. Today I had an assessment done on the whiplash, and was
advised to only walk for the next couple of days until the x-ray results are
available. So....no Boston time, I guess it wasn't to happen this
time.

Just think of Mike the next time you hit a rough spell in your race...
