EVOLVING A PHILOSOPHY THAT WORKS              Kevin's Race Resume

Humble Beginnings

Originally from Australia, I began triathlon at age 24, without any athletic background. I managed a handful of middle of the pack finishes, which motivated me to continue on as a triathlete. I'd lost weight and gained fitness, but for the next three years I became my own worst enemy.

Shuffling through a mass of contradictory information regarding training and nutrition, I trained too hard and too long, which always resulted in injury. This kept me from training effectively and racing well, until I finally changed my ways and started a personalized training plan.

Qualifying for Hawaii Ironman, and beyond.

After recovering from a stress fracture in June of 1994, I moved to Penticton, BC, to train for Ironman Canada. With a 3 month preparation program, I remained injury free and managed to place 61st out of 1400 athletes. My 9:58 finish time also qualified me for the Hawaii Ironman. From that point on, I realized that with a structured training plan that takes into account ones athletic experience, time frames in which one has to train, strengths and weaknesses within the three sports of triathlon, as well as long and short term goals, anyone can remain injury-free and improve to a much higher level in their sport.

Periodized Training’

Consistency and structure applied to my own training, since 1994, has allowed me to achieve much higher goals, such as top ten and sub 9 hour Ironman finishes. It's the experience I've gained, progressing from beginner to advanced level triathlete, that I'm now pleased to share as a coach and personal trainer.

While coaching triathletes over the past three years, I've encouraged a periodized training format, in which every workout has a specific purpose. I always emphasize the benefits of rest and recovery. The result of this approach to training has led every athlete I've coached to reach or exceed their goals. I believe that in order to improve, an athlete should find a coach they respect and can trust, then do everything that coach advises. No more and no less.

I look forward to helping every athlete I work with to realize their athletic potential, and to impact upon their lives in a positive way.
