Bare Bones Duathlon: May 13th, 2006. 4pm Start. COURSE DESCRIPTION
course map

The Bare Bones Duathlon is a Multisport event that includes a 5km run, followed immediately by a 32km cycle portion, and concludes with a repeat of the 5km run. The event is open to individual competitors, who will “transition” from one activity to the next, in a transition area, which will also be the Start/Finish area, in the car park of Wonderful Waterworld, 225 Yorkton Avenue.

The start of the first run will have runners exit the west exit of Wonderful Waterworld carpark and head east on Yorkton Avenue. They’ll turn right on South Main St, then right in to Skaha Lake Park. They will head west again, along the beach-front path, to join Shaha Place at the west end of Skaha Lake beach. Runners will turn right on Skaha Lake Rd, following it back to turn right into Yorkton Ave. This “loop” is 2.5km and will be completed twice per run portion. At the end of the second loop, runners will re-enter the west end of the Wonderful Waterworld carpark, to Transition 1.

Competitors will run their bike to the east carpark exit, mounting their bike as the reach Yorkton Avenue. They’ll cross to the right side of Yorkton, to head east, then turn right on South Main, continuing south on Lakeside Road. Upon reaching Okanagan Falls, cyclist will turn left on Maple Street, then left on McLean Creek Rd. They’ll follow that road until it re-connects with Lakeside Rd, where they’ll turn right. They’ll return along Lakeside, South Main, left into Yorkton Ave, to east end of the transition area.

After dismounting their bikes, they’ll re-run the exact same run course (2 loops again) before finishing back in the Wonderful Waterworld carpark.

In order to safely run this event, there will need to be periodic road closures or limited access, on Yorkton Avenue, between Skaha Lake Rd and Wilson Street, between 4pm and 7pm. Race officials with Stop/Slow paddles can control this, as required.

Officials will also be placed on all intersections along the bike and run course, to warn traffic of the race-in-progress and to direct athletes if necessary. The run course will be marked with orange traffic cones and athletes will receive a full course description, prior to race start.
